why not just pose the yak vertical and fill the tip up with foam-in-place PU to the desired depth ?

You can't fill up all the space. Actually you won't believe how much space you leave until it's filled with water, which is very likely too late.

to cut cost down, fill the space up with empty air-tight plastic bottles as the PU foam is being sprayed on ...while PU acts as bonder & sealer, bottles act as fillers

I think I got you wrong. PU might work. Just need to make sure it's waterproof.
