zone 20 walleye opener

the plan is targeting trent river walleye,
this is actually my first time fishing trent river on the boat.
i have no clue what the techniques is, in my mind is get the jig head with swimbait and white grub. drop shot, and few crank bait.
got there and launch the boat just before mid night,
water current is so fast, cant even hold the boat spot with trolling motor, try to jig its hard to do it vertical because current was so fast, got hung up few times and no bites. decide to change to drop shot, but forgot to bring drop shot weight!!
take out the crank bait, and hit all the walleye with crank baits.
