Nine Toronto-area men have been fined a total of $36,200 for possessing more pink salmon than allowed.
Volodymyr Ripko and Vyacheslav Dushkin pleaded guilty to possessing 38 pink salmon and were fined $2,250 each.
Vladimir Boiko and Oleksiy Shevchuk pleaded guilty to possessing 43 pink salmon and were fined $2,000 each.
Vushir Mashanlo, Iouri Samodai and Valery Pazinich pleaded guilty to possessing 121 pink salmon and were fined $4,500 each.
Mikhail Zhikharev and Valeri Moltchanov pleaded guilty to possessing 123 pink salmon and were fined $7,100 each.
Seven of the nine men received fishing suspensions: Boiko and Shevchuk for one year; Mashanlo, Samodai and Pazinich for two years; and Zhikharev and Moltchanov for three years.
All fishing equipment was seized and permanently forfeited to the Crown.
Court heard that on September 14, 2014, conservation officers who were checking anglers as they left the Mississagi River west of Blind River stopped four vehicles with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police.
Nine anglers were found to have more pink salmon than permitted.
The legal possession limit for pink salmon in the Blind River area is five.
Justice of the Peace Darlene Hayden heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Blind River, on November 26, 2014.
